Wanamaker 1910 Diary

This is a 1910 diary belonging to a 16 year-old Jewish boy.  The diary includes personal references to Southern Hebrew Sunday School and Gratz College.  There are articles of special interest to Jews, such as the article on page 7, about the “Legend of Esther” and the article on the “Shofar” on page 294.  The diary also contains advertisements.  These advertisements show items for sale at Wanamaker’s and other Philadelphia businesses.  Many thanks to the Ginsburg, Platsis, Pressman and Vederman families for making this document available to the JGSGP.

This is a large PDF file (346MB) with images of 446 pages.  It will take time to download and may not be compatible with all devices.  Click here to view the document. (It is stored on Google and will load slowly. It might even ask you if it is OK not to check the document for viruses which we guarantee it does not have any.) The advertisements in this document are a fascinating look at life in 1910.
